Well, first off, look at who is on the real Mount Rushmore, and why those
Presidents are on there. It doesn't necessarily mean they're the greatest
Presidents of all-time, but they are heavily considered to be the
Fore-Fathers.
Now, the title of this video is called The Mount Rushmore of Hip Hop and
not the Mount Rushmore of Rap.
So, with that said, the Hip Hop equivalent of Mount Rushmore would have to
be:
DJ Kool Herc - Heavily considered to be the creator of Hip Hop
Afrika Bambaataa - One of the originators that coined the the term "Hip
Hop" and it's elements
Rakim - A pioneer and revolutionized the evolution of rhyme skills, rhyme
schemes, and lyricism.
2Pac - Even though he is the most modern of the previous names mentioned,
he is easily the most influential Rapper/Emcee of all-time.
My Hip Hop Mount Rushmore is DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Rakim, and
2Pac.
My Mt. Rushmore:
1. Iggy Azalea
2. Ice JJ Fish
3. Rick Ross
4. Lil Wayne (2010-present)
In terms of impact
Biggie
Tupac
Dr Dre
Nas
On what influenced me
Method Man
Eminem
50 Cent
Kanye West
(I'm 18)
I can't give a MR for MC's, but as far as producers:
DJ Premier
RZA
Dr. Dre
Pete Rock
Honorable mentions:
Mannie Fresh
The Neptunes
Easy Mo Bee
Kanye
Timbaland
Eminem
Jay Z
Kanye West
Lil wayne
Please remember that I was born in 1996
For me:
Eminem
2pac
Kanye
Biggie
Jay-Z
Maybe I can put there Nas and Dr. Dre, but for me, those 5 are who made me
love hip hop
#mountrushmore of #hiphop
Dilla, Kanye (even though I don't like his stuff) Nas, DOOM
DOOM, Nas, Earl, Biggie
end of story
Mine is....
Guru
Nas
Dj Premier
and finally I would say Treach ( From Naughty by nature) because he
inspired Eminem and got me into hip hop.
One day Joey Bada$$.....
(Be aware, these are based more on quality than influence)
(Also, this is incredibly difficult to narrow down each category to 4,
realistically each could contain 20 at least)
Here's one for Production:
KANYE
EL-P
RZA
DRE
Here's one for Lyricism:
RAKIM
EMINEM
AESOP ROCK
GZA
One for Albums:
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
ENTER THE 36 CHAMBERS
THE INFAMOUS
IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK
One for Groups:
WU-TANG
A TRIBE CALLED QUEST / DE LA SOUL (dead tie)
OUTKAST
PUBLIC ENEMY
(Doing a straight-up Rushmore for only 4 figures in an overall sense is
literally impossible for me to even fathom)
(There are just too many factors at play)
Chuck D, Big Boi, Questlove/Black thought, and Nas for me
Why not Kool Herc? The damn creator of Hip-Hop
Okay, I know Mt Rushmore is supposed to be just one, but I have 4 lists
with 4 different criteria's.
1. The first one is the ones that influenced me (got me into real hip hop
at age 15, I'm 18 now) and that would be: Nas, Rakim, G Rap, Big Daddy Kane
2. Second one 4 best lyricists imo: Rakim, Black Thought, Pharaohe Monch,
KRS-One
3. 4 Most Important People in Hip Hop: DJ Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa,
Rakim, Jay-Z
4. My Main List. The Main Guys where they completely changed the game
Here's the 4 People: Marly Marl, Rakim, G Rap, Big Daddy Kane.
Marly Marl: He's the first one to really sample and learn different
techniques that helped guys like Premier, Pete Rock, Lord Finesse
Rakim: He literally changed the game with his lyrics. Guys like Nas, Pac,
Pharaohe, Em got a lot of there styles from him
G Rap: Same with Rakim, He influenced guys like Nas, and all the gangsta
rap that followed. Him and Cube was tough to decide
Kane: Literally the first Biggie and Jay-Z (who everyone now so-called got
there influence from) and was a best MC than both of them, both lyrically
and with the swagger.
a) Top 4 Groups of #4: Public Enemy, ATCQ, Wu-Tang, Run-D.M.C.
MF DOOM
Madlib
J Dilla
Kendrick Lamar
Nas, Dilla, Kanye and Aesop Rock/Doom in my opinion
I agree with Kinge's and Feefo's list. Beezy's and Mike's...not so much.
only because they're mentioning their personal favorites and thats fine.
but this is Mount Rushmore which had nothing to do with favorite presidents
but more of those that were most influential and important. i mean i'm not
a heavy Jay Z fan but i do agree he has to be on that list because of how
much he has accomplished and done for hiphop.
If we're talking Mount Rushmore, it's gotta go beyond personal favorites.
So I'd put Tupac, Big, Eminem, and Jay Z on the Mount Rushmore. I'm not
even the biggest fan of some of them, but I can't sit here and say they
weren't influential in hip hop, and if that's the case then they've gotta
be up there. I'd take Jay out and put in Nas if it were my personal
favorites.
MF Doom, Biggie, Tribe Called Quest, Big L. In my opinion
Tech N9ne holds my spot for best flow of all time. Just me.
Royce can flow on nearly any beat too.
Iggy. Beiber. MC Hammer. Vanilla Ice.
If you disagree, you don't know hip hop. #facts
Mine would be: melle Mel, Rakim, nas, and ice cube.
Nas
Em
Biggie
Pac
Eminem
Brother Ali
Lupe Fiasco
Eyedea
damn myke had a great list too
not a big fan of eminem, but Eminem HAS to be in every list
Tupac ice cube bigge nas
2pac nas biggie ice cube dr dre
2pac, kane, nas, rakim.
If we're talking about influence on the whole rap community it has to be
these guys without a doubt:
Eminem, OutKast, Nas, Dr. Dre.
Me personally, I got:
Black Thought (The Roots), Biggie Smalls, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes
Based on my Era Give Me:
Tupac- Greatest of All Time
Jay-z - One of the smartest business men in Hip Hop, Blueprint Best Album
Old Wayne - Longevity speaks for itself, from 2005-2009 Owned Hip Hop
Old Kanye - The controversial music, the messages, production
Runner Ups: Nas, Andre 3k
I agree with Mykes Mt Rushmore quite a bit, definitely agree with El-P that
dude is the god of independent Hip Hop. Company Flow, Cannibal Ox the Cold
Vein, Killer Mikes RAP Music, his solo shit, run the jewels. Everything
El-P has done has been brilliant and he's been doing it since the 90s.
I couldn't give two rat shits about the Business aspect of Art or if its
"commercially" accessible. Hip Hop is music and music is Art. Mozart is by
far the most well known composer but he's not the most important or
influential and shit tbh he's not that good. If you study music history and
music theory you'll see that the "most well known" and successful artists
in music didn't influence much of shit but were rather the ones heavily
influenced by others. When people make Music they likely listen to music,
and they're also likely going to gauge who made good music since they can
likely compose themselves. They're not going to say "Oh well gee whiz, his
Business mind was amazing!" I'm willing to wager that 20 years from now
artists in the future will emulate more of what goes on in present day
underground than mainstream ( not that its all bad ) shit, as it usually
has been for a long time.
Rakim. Nas. Big L. Kool G Rap.
biggie, tupac, jay z, nas.
2 chainz, lil b, lil wayne, tyga. these are the most lyrical rappers out
there. yall mean?
2Pac
Biggie
Eminem
Kanye West
Without them HipHop wouldn't be what it is today.
Biggie, Jay Z, Nas, Eminem, DOOM, Kanye
Chuck D demands to be there.
Em-Big Pun-Andre 3 stacks-Biggie
Rakim, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Eminem
no love for eyedea
that was fucking inspiring, 'specially the Ice Cube rant at the end. Sick.
Good pics.
For my "Mount Rushmore" Im going by accomplishment. One of them is because,
Im bias and the rest are acknowledgement regardless if Im a fan or not:
Run-DMC - They made the genre popular, spread it around the globe while
helping build the biggest Hip Hop record company, and they were
trendsetters of their time.
Dr. Dre - One of the best five producers ever. Not only he was part of the
group that made "Gangsta rap" famous, but he maintained the fans attention
on the West, while adding that "G-Funk music" style under his repertoire.
2-Pac - A lyricist of the highest caliber, one of the most influential and
intellectual person within Hip Hop, an activist, a poet, a rapper with a
lot to say in many different ways, with many topics, with many different
emotions and with a message to his people. He's the only one to planned
songs ahead of his time.
Last but not least...
Wu-Tang Clan - I feel they never get the respect they truly deserve. If you
talk about the total package, then there's nothing more to say but their
name. They came with the cool names, the A.K.A's personas, cool signature
moves, the symbols, the clothing line, the lyrics, the beats, the skits,
the samples, the movie samples, the originality, the intriguing concepts,
the slang, the attitude, they brought their borough to light taking back
the attention from West-coast, the perfect plan that changed the game by
allowing members to have their solo careers with any label, coming with a
totally different vibe with each album, that family bond they still have
even today, the longevity of their songs and all the imitators that wanted
to emulate their sound. And to this day, I still say RZA is by far the best
Hip Hop producer ever and the only one to reached Hollywood musically to do
scores for a movie and reached Japan to do the same for an anime.
No Wayne?? #SMH
JK
Only one of yall had 2Pac? :/
