That trail is a truly wonderful experience. The first time I was there, in 1962, you couldn't even get as close to the heads as the new amphitheater, so the trail is a really special experience. As for your breathing, well, that's a lot of steps in fairly high altitude!Here's some fun facts for some of you out there: The mountain itself covers 1,278.45 acres (5.17 km) and it is 5,725 feet above sea level. And the faces themselves are 60 feet tall and 18 m.
